    5 Axis

Shop Sabre doesn't offer any 5 axis options do they? Is there anyone out there who has taken a shop sabre and added this to their machine?

And assuming they don't offer it, are there any competitors in a similar price range and quality (I really like how they use ballscrews) that would offer this as an addon?

I don't think they have a machine with enough Z clearance for a 5th axis. If you call them, Brandon is very helpful. I have a different machine now with rack instead of ball screws and it cuts as good if not better than the ball screws did. I wouldn't rule out a rack design myself.

Have you factored in the cost of 5 Axis software to your ruminations? It usually gets expensive to move to that level of capability.

kenrbass, you're a camaster guy now right? I don't think I can be sold on a helical rack and pinion being comparable to a proper ballscrew setup. Even if you can demonstrate the same backlash (which camaster doesn't even attempt, in their faq they just say "well 200k machines use this tech, so it must be good"), ballscrews will have way less friction. Rotating the nut around a static ballscrew is just pretty slick.

I saw their aggregate c axis video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67LekRPkhNM ) and considering this is a tool attached to the spindle and they still have a bit of room to play with, but not much. An actual B/C would mount higher, and might be doable, at least for 4-5 inches of Z workspace I think. Could be wrong.

routalot you mean controller or cam? I'd use Fusion 360 for CAM. If I had to change the control software I'd use linuxCNC.

I would thin it will be challenging and expensive for a hobby user to find both cam software with a dedicated postprocessor and a controller that will run 5 axes.It gets significantly more demanding if you hope for simultaneous 5 axis working. If there is something suitable,I imagine a lot of people would like to know about it.I imagine it gets a little easier if you limit yourself to trunnion mounted tables mounted on a 3 axis machine.
