    Just another extrusion/Aluminium CNC

Hi. I'm working on this build for about 2 years now and jsut wanted to share some pictures of the progress.

The Framesize is 1000mm x 800mm. It is a direct driven dual drive gantry design inspired by the famous Gabriels build.

It uses 25mm linear rails on all Axis and 1605 ballscrews on X & Z and 2005 on Y. I wanted 10mm pitch at first but ordered 5mm pitch... and for now can live with it.

Motors are high torque Nema23 steppers. In the future I update to 400W Servos.

Everything was done with simple tools like a drill stand and a sliding mite saw.

This is how it will look at the end:

5mm pitch Ballscrews are good for Zaxes but not X and Y you want at least 10mm Pitch for X and Y Axes

If you do use the servos it won't be to bad for speed, but the steppers would be very slow

I received the large Profiles yesterday and mounted them. Next step is aligning and squaring everything which feels like it will be much butthurt.

@fretman_2 thanks. I'm very happy with it too.

PS: Some pictures of the aligning process will follow these days.

Today I started aligning some parts.

The left Y Profile was clamped in position with 1-2-3 blocks and attached to the bottomframe.

To flush both Y profiles I clamped them between the motormounts.

To get a little pressure from above I improved a bit:

With everything clamped that way I tightend the Anglebrackets of the secondary Y Profile.

Next step was aligning the Linearrail of the left Y Axis which was pretty simple. Just mounted a dial gage to the slide and drove along the screws. A little pressure here, some more pressure there to get it near zero.

Last step was inserting the fastener caps. After inserting them I used a razorblade plane to cut away the overhang.

What kind of couplings are you using for the nema 24's and the threaded rods?

    Simple 30mm diameter jaw couplings.

The Y Axis is aligned. The Ballscrew for the X Axis arrived today.

To make things more rigid I mounted a 120x80 Profile to the back.

    Aligned the X Axis:

    X left:

X center (after tightening the slave rail it changed to 0.03mm which is still fine for me):

    X right:

Hi. Today I recognized that the stepper drivers were not connected to the +5V Terminal. Only the step- and dir- was connected to the board. But step+ and dir+ were not connected to anything. The stepper worked.

Could someone explain why it worked?

The drivers are DQ542MA, wired active low, but I forgot to connect the +5V.
