    Fanuc 15MA MDI types

I was wondering what it takes to use the newer style MDI ( https://www.dnc-electronics.co.uk/pa...02b-0162-c092/ ) with the 15A. The older one with the membrane keysheet looks odd with the operator panel I want to use now. Do I just have to make up an adapter cable from the Honda high density connector to the old style connector? Or is there something else that has to be done so it is correctly identified by the control with the correct layout for the keys? Can it even be done or is this really for the 15B only?

All keyboards are wired as a row/column matrix. You have to look at the key mapping and make an adapter. The newer (16, 15B, 18 etc) series can. if needed, have the key caps swapped.

Thanks, that at least gives me an idea how it works. I wonder why they made so may variations instead of just having every one populate the full matrix. So much skipping around. Where in the software can I find out what mapped matrix location is addressed to which mdi keypad function. Can that be changed like it can the PMC or is that fixed in the source code of the control software? I think I have decided against trying it. There are button labels on the 15A membrane that are not duplicated on the hard keypad of the 15/150B. Start immediately stands out and there are probably more. The cosmetic improvement probably is not worth the effort. On a separate note I also have given up on trying to use the zero operator panel. I guess I will use the original panel that came with the control so I can just reuse most of the ladder. It doesn't look as slick and some of it won't serve the labeled purpose but it will save me a lot of headaches.
