Greetings All,
I have a Southbend Chipmaster CNC knee type mill and I have begun
the task of inspecting and rebuilding the internals on the head assembly.
Of course, once I got into this bit of mech. surgery was I surprised to
see that the head was a Lagunamatics piece. So, amongst other things
I have a machine part English and part metric nomenclature . . . . .
The disassembly is going well, down to the lower variadisk and shaft which
surround the drawbar on the front end of the head assembly. Its here
I cannot tell how to finish the remaining job of separating the shaft and
variadisk from the aluminum housing. I don't know how similiar this is to
a B'port head, but I am hoping someone can explain how this particular
variadisk is held to the shaft? The cross section print shows 2 blind pins
opposite to each other and no other means (that I can tell) of how this
unit is captured on the shaft (other than a press fit & 2 keys?). My thoughts
are to use a much larger puller unit to pull the variadisk up the shaft and
eventually free. Is this the correct solution ? What are those pins for . . . ?

thanks for your consideration and help,
scott
