Can anyone identify this switch symbol?

Under the power buttons, just right of the clamp/unclamp switch I have a switch I cannot identify. It looks like L°. See the attached photo. I'm not sure what it does. Any ideas?

Good guess. No parts catcher on the lathe. I'm thinking it has something to do with the tool turret but I can't find it on the schematic. It doesn't appear to do anything obvious. Turret jog or home maybe? I may have to open the panel and see if the wires are labelled.

Had some machine with a switch like that, it was a phase changer/select. In your case nothing will happen, because I think your phases are already set. Is it a three phase machine?

If you have a decent full schematic, the SW connections will normally have wire identifiers at the termination points.

I'd expect to hear a contactor or relay click but I don't hear anything. It is 480V three phase.

This is a Simco Turn HL-320, Hungarian made. It's an SZIM EEN-320 fitted with the Fanuc control. The schematic I have is a rough photocopy and a bit hard to read. I'll pull the numbers tomorrow and take another look.

I thought maybe it was to enable control of the hydraulic chuck. My M code lists says M51 & M52 control the chuck but when I enter the commands via the MDI nothing happens. I need to sort that also. Foot pedal works of course.

    I've seen that before, I think (if I remember correctly) it's a barload/barfeed on/off.

Especially when it looks as though it is next to chuck open/close!

I found it. It is the Setup Mode switch S305 (100SDN1), it is connected to X12.0 (M1 pin 10). When it's closed X12.0 is high (+24). It is on the same schematic page as the door protection circuit. The machine operates in either position, with or without the door open so I suspect it has been bypassed/defeated at some point.

Thank you for all your help.

Re: Can anyone identify this switch symbol?

I got an answer from DanobatUSA who serviced these machines. They said the "right hand corner button is for over travel bypass. If one of the slide reach the emergency stroke limit switch, press this button, turn on the drives, hold it, while move the slide in the opposite direction. released, when the slide is not on the emergency limit any more."

It isn't part of the interlock system. Now if I ever over travel I'll know what to do.
