Our customer has a Methods Slant 50 lathe with a Yasnac LX3 control. They were training someone and the operator crashed a boring bar (mounted in the turret) into the chuck while it was cutting with another tool. After they repaired the damage from the crash they are trying to get the machine running again. The machine will jog with the handwheel and when they run a program (one that they ran before the crash) it will do a tool change, rapid into position and then stop when it gets to the G01 command. The display flashes "F" at the bottom as if it's feeding, but the machine doesn't move. The operator feels that the machine is acting like it's in G98 when he's programmed it to be in G99 but as far as we can tell, it's in G99 mode. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't we get an error when the spindle starts?

Nope. Only uses the encoder for feed or threading. RPM comes from the motor encoder/mag sensor.

Well done! You nailed it. Got there this morning and found the encoder belt off as well as a loose mount for the encoder. The belt was also stretched so I'm guessing that's what caused the crash in the first place. Thanks again.
