    Looking for Advise / Opinions

Wondering if I could get some opinions/advise on building a CNC router
I want to contour, engrave, and carve 3d images in all kinds of wood.
Size of router will be around 36" x 36"

My question is.....which is the most ridged way to build my X and Y axis? Round linear guides, or the linear guides with the truck bearings?

2nd option is VASTLY HUGELY BETTER than round rails.

I have built machines with both. Would never consider using round rails again.

Yes. Round rails are nut really suited for building machines. They have too much play in them.

Square rails are much more rigid because they take up the rotational force also.
Round rails and slides can move rotate around and they will do if your machine frame is not rigid enough.
Also round rails have C shaped bearing which can open up from high force on them which makes them much less precise than the square slides.

Thanks you guys. That's what I was looking for.

Gerry, I know you told me the AM882 is your preferred driver, and the two AM882's I bought for my other project are working amazing. I am getting 1,000 RPM out of my nema 34 motors! Most everyone I talked to said that kind of RPM could not be done with a big stepper. See the bottom of this message the string making jig I made.

I'm wondering about this ready built controller.... https://buildbotics.com/
I am guessing the drivers built in are probably not as good as the AM882?
Is there other places that make a control box like this I can buy instead of building?

I'm in the early stages of, do I build a router, or do I buy one. Sometimes I get burned out with starting a project that takes awhile, and it would be nice to start carving and learning my V Carve Pro software sooner than later.
Any opinions on Openbuilds.com? they have a machine I've been looking at that might be a good way to start out. https://openbuildspartstore.com/lead...010-40-x-40-1/

I know its a lot of questions, I'm just getting tired of searching and reading. Making a decision with this kind of money and time, I don't want to do something I'll regret later on.
    Thanks everyone.

The first I heard of the buildbotics was a week or two ago. My first concern would be the low max voltage of 36V. Followed by the web interface, and limited flexibility. The S Curve planner is probably really smooth, though.

I'm not sure of any other all in one unit. Maybe the TinyG or Smoothieboard type stuff.

The Masso is a standalone control, but still needs stepper drives.

The Leadshine MX4660 is an all in one drive, but is not a control.

Hard to recommend any of the low cost machines, as I don't really know what you want, or expect.
