Choice of 2 steppers, which is best?

    Hi guys/girls.

Been trawling through the minefield of Nema23 steppers and think I've narrowed it down to 2.
Would like your feedback on which to go for.
Will be running the drivers on 60V DC.

    Motor 1:
    https://www.cnc4you.co.uk/Stepper-Mo...H401-03-Nema23
8 wire used Bipolar in parallel:
    Torque 4nm (566oz/in)
    Voltage 2.8V
    Amps 4.0A
    Resistance 0.7
    Inductance 3.0

    Motor 2:

    4 wire
    Torque 4.5nm (637oz/in)
    Voltage 4.2V
    Amps 4.2A
    Resistance 1.0
    Inductance 4.5

Can't decide myself on this because: Are the higher inductance & resistance figures on motor 2 worth the extra torque compared with motor 1?.

It's for X,Y on a PM25 size machine, direct driven 1605 screws, no reduction pulleys/belts.

    Thanks.

The rated torque is the holding torque, when the motors are not spinning.
Once they start spinning, the torque will fall off rapidly. The higher the inductance, the faster the torque falls off.
So, the motor with the lower inductance will probably be the better choice.

You really need to see torque curves to make an informed decision.
And, depending on the application, an even smaller motor may be a better choice, as a smaller motor may have more torque than these at higher rpm. But it depends on your rpm requirements.

    Thanks for the response Gerry.
I've got some 425oz on the Sieg of similar spec to motor 1 which I'll fit and see where I'm at.
My rpm requirements are around 400 (2000mm/min rapids)

My 1090oz Nema34 were a big mistake. There's too much torque at the low rpm range by the looks of it. Sounds horrendous.
It's impossible to stall them on acceleration as well. So far I've set it up to 3000. Totally unnecessary.
