Yaskawa SGM series servopacks - is it possible to control them on DIY machines?

    Guys i need serious help.

I have a set of servopacks with matched ac motors. They are Yaskawa SGM series AC servomotors (SGM-08AFFJ12) with DR2 series servopacks (DR2-08AC-NY41).
Is it worth to think about buying them? My concern is if will i be able to control the motors using soft like Mach3 or linuxcnc or other STEP/DIR based controllers? Second thing is PID parameters tuning - any Yaskawa software avaiable for free without need of 'special kables' directly from NASA?

I'd love to use them but is it possible for amateur to use them?

    Many thanks!
    Bogi

I believe that motor is Sigma II and the DR2 drive is from the Sigma I era. Sigma I and Sigma II components are not compatible primarily due to the pulse encoder resolution. If you can't find the drive and motor in the same document then you aren't looking at compatible components.

    Hey,
first i already told ya the drives and motors are matched - they were dismounted from the same machine. Do your home work - NY41 version is a special series made purpousely for one company for their IC pick&place machines. Not compatibile with other yaskawa equipment - this is the reply i got from Yaskawa.

Should be very entertaining to integrate the drives without reference material.
