I am Deepak.
One of my customers, wish to install FTP Server on a remote PC & Connect 840-D Sl to it.
Has anybody done this before ?

Please provide details - what does the customer want to achieve exactly ?
Swapping files ?

Does the siemens controller have a browser for internet or a file-service browser similar to windows explorer ?
Are the machines remote, firewalls, details are all important.

FTP server is not required to be running on the remote machine. A simple //Sharefolder/ is sufficient. You can set as many as you want.
If the FTP server is what's absolutely required. See "Menu Select > Setup > HMI > Log. Drive" (soft keys). Screenshot attached.

Alternatively, on the 840D_TOOLBOX DVD you will find the "AccessMyMachineP2P(PC)" in the folder \tools\access_mymachine-p2p
This will provide you with both remote and controller access, VNC viewer, and will manage share drives also. Comes with every 840 controller (free).

Hi Mecanix,

Today I checked it again at my customer's place.
I am able to go to Setup>HMI>FTP
I then set the login (as Admin) & Password (1234)

But when I start the CIMCO FTP server on my laptop & try to access my C:\MASTER folder
I get the FTP page on the CNC screen. But Password option is not shown on CNC.
Also, it shows error could not connect to the FTP server. The exact error text message, I do not remember.
But I am not able to connect using the FTP option.

However, the share folder is working fine. I am able to see all the files of my laptop
on the CNC screen.

The customer wants FTP solution only.
The reason is they want to restrict some folders to some machines.
They have 3 such machines.
