I designed an advanced carbide center drill bit to drill Inconel castings. If they drill in the wrong place they fill the hole with 625 weld material. On the latest design the pilot of the bit shatters when in contacts the weld. The bit worked okay on welds with a lower helix angle. Would increasing the helix angle 5 degrees weaken the pilot that much or am I missing something? All aspects of the tip geometry and basically the same between the 2 designs.
