Shopbot PRT Alpha, upgrade to Acorn / Gecko g251x, power supply question.

    Hello all,

I was hopping someone could help me. I have a shopbot PRT Alpha and I am upgrading to a Acorn_REV4 CNC control boards with 4 gecko g251x drivers using the original Vexta PK299-01AA stepper motors. I would like to use meanwell din power supplies and I was thinking that a separate power supply for each motor would be better, is this true? I did notice that the g251x drives have a minimum req of 15vdc, am I reading that right? If true then I could NOT use "MEANWELL MDR-40-12" these would be to small for the g251x?
If I just went with one din power supply which one would be best?

Thank you for your help in advance.

    Regards,
    Devin

Powering the steppers with less than 48V will result in poor performance.

The pk299 was not a shopbot alpha. Anyway, asking on the centroid forum would be best. Leadshine drives will be much smoother than gecko. Torrid power supplies perform better than switching meanwell's and Ger21 is spot on about keeping the voltage up.

Thanks for the help, I called Gecko and asked. I ended up going with a "MEAN WELL SE-600-48 AC to DC Power Supply, Single Output, 48V, 12.5 Amp, 600W, 1.5"".

    Thanks again!
