    Common problem with Gecko drives

Had a problem with both my X and Z drive, turns out it was the connectors on the Gecko drives. Very difficult problem to trouble shoot. My Z axis became unstable very quickly and went from intermittently failing to a constant failure, I replaced the gecko drive and the problem went away. The X axis was intermittently falling maybe once every couple of weeks and then it became every couple of days so I replaced the Gecko 210 with an old one I had but it was bad and I put back the one that was failing to begin with and the problem went away.

I now believe it was that by reseating the plug in connector that fixed the problem. The Gecko connectors loose connection as they age, maybe corrosion or thermal expansion. I researched on youtube and there is a video where it states this is a common problem. So before you change out a Gecko drive try unplugging it and plug it back in and that may solve the problem, this kind of cleans the contacts in the plug.

Perhaps some contact cleaner would be a good idea.
