    Kinetic Sand Table (part 2)

I built one of these kinetic things in 2009. Back then there wasn't much in the way of a roadmap other than Bruce Shapiro's public (museum ?) installations. The parts used were expensive overkill and eventually were removed for use in other projects. The table itself has been sitting in a corner for 8 years or more.
A link to that thread for the curious:

Fast forward to 2020 and Bruce Shapiro is selling sand tables to the public. It looks like a quality product and is priced accordingly.

And there's the zenxy for DIY types

Those projects have resulted in sand-track patterns available on many websites and even an online generator "Sandify"
This has motivated me to get the table moving again using electonics usually associated with 3D printers, and some motion parts usually associated with recycle bins.

Next post I hope to have a tidy belted motion system to display and some tips on how build a similar set-up for little more than $100US (with a bit of resourceful scrounging)
Meanwhile pics of a quick pattern from Sandify and the arduino/sheild electronics

hy, that seems to be so nice i like it ... i was thinking, to make it a bit more interesting, because 'perfect' simetry is not beautifull ... sand dunes are not identical, being shaped by wind or sea waves ... use a random distorsion algorithm, so to generate an uneven field ( for example, google 'fisheye effect' ) , and layer it over a simetrical shape, maybe crop the final result, so to make the mind think about the rest, make the mind imagine what is missing / kindly

    deadlykitten;
May be someone is already working on a random generator ? For now I'll use what's available with no effort,

Hopefully the photos are self-explanatory. In one photo the axis assembly is upside down. It may look flimsy but it works well due to the dual x-axis motors and the
belts clamping near the bronze bushings.

    Ingredients:
    3lbs baking soda
1 x cnc shield kit like the one in this link https://www.amazon.com/Longruner-Ard...NFZXQZVEE4V1T5
    1 x gt2 belt kit, I used this one https://www.amazon.com/KeeYees-Timin...s%2C258&sr=8-4
    grbl / Universal G-Code Sender
1 x computer psu (or other psu)
4 ps 3/8" cold rolled rod (any hardware store)

Glass top table, curbside pickup ?
3 pcs 3/8" sintered bronze bushing (any industrial store)
Tie waps, bolts, whatever wood is handy
    1 x magnet
    1 x light coil spring
    1 x steel ball
    LED light strip (optional)
