I bought a nema 34 kit of ebay to "upgrade" my machine, not knowing about the problem with high inductance. All i saw was the high torque, thinking it would be a lot better. But after mounting everything and the steppers started stalling at half the speed of my nema 23s, i started researching and found many others with the same problem.

The motors i ordered are 34HS5435C-02B2 from longs motor with 22mH inductance.

I am able to get 1000mm/min with these motors, and i got 1800-2500mm/min with my nema23.

I am running direct drive to 3205 ballscrews (i know they are overkill), upgraded from 1605 at the same time as steppers. I didn't go for 3210 ballscrews because of accuracy loss (have some regrets about this).

I am wondering if going for this kit (1232oz 5.5mH) would give me the same/ hopefully more speed than the nema23s. (Using the DM860A drivers from the old kit at 60v).

From my understanding my current steppers want:
32 * sqrt(inductance) = 32 * sqrt(22) = 32 * 4,69 = 150,08V

And the "new" ones:
32 * sqrt(inductance) = 32 * sqrt(5,5) = 32 * 2,345 = 75,04V

Happy for suggestions aswell.

The new motors should work a lot better than the previous NEMA 34s. Whether they're really going to go faster than the old NEMA 23s is hard to say, but they should have more torque. Were the 23s failing for lack of torque? If so, buying these new motors should help.

U know what u buy this mottors , and they will work a little better than this ones u have , better buy a closed loop kit .
U have only a life , why trow ur money on garbage , and after u cry , better buy a expensive first and u don't have any problem later .
Look at servo sistem too , but if there is no tuning u will have ur finger caught .

You might be better off with 400-600oz Nema 34's, with 2-3mH inductance.
Your 5mm pitch screws will limit your speeds with bigger motors.

Thanks for the replies, still haven't decided what to go for. Would these closed loop steppers make a big difference? Or mabye you have some suggestions? Havent looked at servos as i have no clue what to look at.
