Hello

We have a product family that we do 24/7 which I think could benefit from thread whirling. Unfortunately I have no experience in whirling threads.

So pros and cons on this part would be appreciated.

It is a copper part where we are doing M10x1.5 - 8e. Raw material is between Ø15-Ø18mm, and thread lenght is from 61-74mm.

Right now we are rolling the thread which is good as long as outer diameter is stable, but a small change in diameter prior to rolling the thread has very large impact.

And small changes in materiale composition tends to cause issues as well.

Then there is the issue about chips when turning copper.

I think that both cycle time, precision of thread and chips could be better if whirling instead.
I have only seen few whirling metric threads, but I know it can be done.

Could anybody maybe come with good advice on thread whirling metric threads?
Maybe come with some of the bad sides on thread whirling, and maybe even how programming is normally done.
