    Removing Tool Marks in Acrylic

    Hello,

I'm relatively new with CNC work. I'm pocketing designs in mirrored acrylic, and I'm wondering if there is a good way to eliminate the tool marks left from the path in the acrylic. The attached photo shows the marks I mean. I'm cutting 1/8" thick acrylic to a depth of 1/16" with an Amana Tool 51517-k Spektra Coated single flute down cut bit recommended to me for plastic cutting. I'd prefer not to have to do any sanding or buffing by hand if possible. Thanks!

The best way is not to generate the tool marks to begin with, I use soybean oil, just brushed on or applied with an oiler, seems to work pretty well. Also keep the chips evacuated so they are not being recut.

Use an up cut bit for pocketing. And play around with finishing passes.

I've waved a flame gently over cut acrylic and removed a lot of the cutting marks. ( hand held gas torch)
It might pay to practice on scrap before you go balls deep....lol
