    Siemens 810D tool offset

    Hi,
Can anyone help out, the tool offset datum every now and then will change datum from Z to Y which causes problems setting tool offsets and the only way i know of getting it back to z datum is to power down the machine and traverse datums.
    See attached JPEG.

    Thank you

Is that a horizontal milling machine?

Odd behavior...I wonder if, you have a sticky button or Keyboard problem going on.

The tool offsets depends on the type of tool (milling or turning tool) and on the active plane selected by the G-Code G17 / 18 / 19.
For a milling tool the tool length is defined in Z with G17. That's the default case.
If you observe that the tool length sometimes is effective in Y instead of Z I would expect that you changed your active plane from G17 to G18.
