Fadal VMC 20 1993 Air line lubricator purpose

Can someone please tell me the purpose of the air line lubricator in the box below the electrical disconnect?
It’s the left bowl in the picture . The air line connects on the right side of the box, goes to a moisture trap in the right side of the box.

The Oiler feeds the solenoids below the cabinet .
Does the Oiler just lube the solenoids, or downstream

    What oil should I use?

    Thanks!

Most likely to keep moisture from corroding everything. I have driers and moisture traps and I still get condensation in my lines, but it's in a non-insulated shop so there are some pretty big temp swings.

My Fadal only has a regulator / separator in that cabinet so I added another Filter/lubricator in front of the machine (A real one), and a 120 volt solenoid. When the machine is powered up, the air solenoid comes on and supplies air to the machine, when power is turned off, the air is turned off.

On yours, that is the main inlet so the lubricator will supply everything, including draw bar cylinder, Hi/Lo cylinders, and orientation cylinder. That's a good thing as long as it's a very minimal amount.

I'm using Marvel Mystery oil in the lubricator and I have it turned way down to a very minimum amount. I rather have a film of oil on my solenoid valves and inside my 4th axis than moisture.

    So far, so good.

    Thanks
Maybe I’ll just use air tool oil

I went with the Marvel oil. It’s red, easier to see in the sight glass, specs say it’s good for corrosion prevention.
    Thanks for the tip

Glad I could help. I've used it for many years and had excellent luck with it.
I have fewer problems with valves sticking since I've done that as well.

it also lubes any air actuated device. The Hi/Lo shift air solenoids as well as the tool change / M19 spindle orientation air solenoid.
Fadal calls for Mobil DTE lite oil.
