    Acme thread cutting

I run a Harrison alpha 550 everyday. The acme threading with it is terrible. I have tried a program that was supplied by Harrison to stagger acme threading. But it was terrible!

I am cutting a 4 acme in 1018 tubing. The OD of the pipe is 5”. Thread length is 23”. I need a way to stagger the carbide insert from the left side to right side. Any side first. Don’t matter. I just need the code. It’s a Fanuc controller. Can anyone help with this please?!

A caveat: I last used this about 20 years ago, so I may be way off base, but I thought it might be worth a try. In any case, proceed with extreme caution.

Some older Fanuc/GE Fanuc controls had the ability to use F10/11 single-line Multiple Repetitive Cycles, including G76 which allowed staggered thread cutting . The downside is that ALL of your G70-G76 cycles have to be F10/11 style. Check your (SETTING 2) display. If there's a setting for TAPEF you might try changing TAPEF = 1. The programming format is explained in the Operator's Manual.

Normally I'd agree but the control on the Harrison only allows it to be programmed via a conversational type of cycle not g code
To vary the flank entry he would have to program using the offline Alphalink system that was supplied with the machine
