    RS232 Error during DNC

I have an old 1983 Fadal VMC-40 with the keyboard mounted to the right of the screen (CNC 88). I am able to send programs to it with the RS232 but I haven't been able to run it in DNC. I have messed with all of the Baud Rates but nothing works. When I use the baud rate of 2400 it looks like the DNC is about to work but when I hit the start button I get the "RS232 Error". Any ideas??

    Is the CPU 1400-1/2?

    Denmar,
How do I find out if my CPU is /1 or /2?

    I checked the CPU for my 1983 blue VMC-40 and it's a 1400-2.

If your serial adapter on the PC is flakey it will operate like that.
I have seen USB adapters that will send text but not work for DNC as well

Thanks DareBee. I don't think it's the serial adapter on the PC because I am able to run my newer (1988) fadal via DNC. And I do this using the same serial to USB adapter. Does this make sense?

Early 80's Fadal machines had a 200 Baud phone moden to comunicate with pcs(teletypes); the 1400-2 Cpu was the upgrade for the 1400-1; so the baud was incresed to 1200. consecuently no Usb at the time.Early 90's came the 1400-3, didn't work, so move to 1400-4; with greater baud rates.

Thanks Denmar. So is the 1400-2 capable of running in DNC mode? Or is the CPU simply too slow to communicate back and forth?

    Maybe, maybe not.
I lied to myself for years the my USB adapter was doing its job.
Most of the miscues from it only broke cheap cutters and simple parts anyway :wave::wave::wave:.
Once I realized that $80 got me a native serial card I stopped being a doughead.

    Re: RS232 Error during DNC

We have a mid 80's fadel that is giving us an rs232 alarm at night. The machine just stops and sits there. This is only happening at night. During the day it works fine. any ideas?
