My zone screen has changed for some reason! It now appears as a column type display instead of the old norm. I've tried settings but cannot locate how to return to the original screens. I'll try to attach a pix.

You somehow switched your forum skin to mobile. Click the link that says "Default Style" (on the bottom of the page), that should fix it.
