    Lightbulb Phoenix-GS Machine

    Hi all,

I am a senior in high school and am in a woodshop class. A few years ago, the machine stopped working. The computer crapped out and wouldn't recognize the hard drive. I put the hard drive into a new computer, and viola, it ran DOS just fine and now I just have to get the computer to recognize the COM port and I'll have a working machine.

Here's the issue with this. My woodshop teacher is planning on retiring here soon, and the woodshop program will be combined with the STEM program. My STEM teacher wants to use a newer program with a more reliable computer, but still wants to use the machine.

My idea is to use stepper drivers and a DB25 breakout board from Probotix to retrofit the machine in order to use software, such as Mach 3 or LinuxCNC. I just want to know if this would work or not.

The motors in the machine are Eastern Air Devices 5A/10A 1.8 DEG LA3ABJK-P500

Heres the links of the things that I plan on getting to retrofit this machine:

    Thank you for your time,
    Joseph Mancino
