Is Fusion360 a good alternative to CAM in SolidWorks?

I'm using an evaluation version of SW.
I find the CAM in SW to be not as useful and intuitive as I'd like.

Can anyone comment on the differences between the two software?

I am doing relatively simple 2.5D and 3D machining.

Yes, its a good alternative for your described use case. Go give it a download. It's free if you're a startup/educator
