    Parity error

    New problem today
Can punch but not send a program. Get parity error sometimes other times nothing at all. Machine triggers pc to send program.
    Rs232 test passed
Tried another pc and cable from my other fadal. No different
    Swapped rs232 cards. No change
    All settings correct
A little stumped now. Any ideas?

...something to check is how old is the CPU memory Battery. I just went thru this problem of Transmit/Receive to my 2005 VMC4020 and it turned out to be battery.

Turn POWER OFF and check with a volt meter. This video shows how to replace without damaging the PCB

Checked battery 3.67v so it's good.
Perfoemed the following with no success
Swapped rs232 card with known good one
Swapped cpu board with known good one
Swapped rs232 cable from cab to board with known good one
    Swapped pc
    Swaped pc cable

Then installed the suspect gear on another fadal and it all worked fine so the hardware is good.
    Maybe another card has issues

Check your machine grounding. I had a heck of a time with "parity errors" that all went away when I moved the machine to the other side of the shop.

All sorted. Made a new cable tried a third pc and all worked.
I think both cables have 'well used' db9 plugs so will swap them out with new ones
    Thanks for the assistance
