    Partner 1F Z axis servo hunting/ cleaning

Hey guys, purchased a Partner mill last year and just working on getting it tuned up and running.

It currently hunts about .0015" off the table with the servo energized. From my reading it seems like i need to take apart the servo and clean the dust out?

How does one go about getting it out of the column?

Could be, I haven't researched but I have 3 things to mention.
1: /worthless anecdote// My Y axis did this once, I was machining a giant plate that made the coolant spill a different direction. Luckily I found it while roughing. After setting up a make-shift tarp over the way covers the problem went away and I moved on with life. Obviously your Z servo can't get filled up with coolant.
2: Secure the counterweight before messing with the Z servo.
3: Block the head before messing with the Z servo.

The Z axis has a brake on it to prevent the head from falling, so don't remove it without steps 2&3.

I don't think this machine has a counterweight, don't see anything inside the column.

How does one safely block the head on these machines? I could maybe put some 4x4's under the trucks and strap them to the column so they don't go anywhere?

I think the head has to be all the way up on these to get in there. Are you able to get the motor out without pulling the screw?

Yes the motor will come out without removing the ballscrew.
you can put a 2X4 between the table and the head to block it up. ( behind the spindle nose) then remove the upper fiberglass motor cover. loosen the motor, remove the belt then remove the motor.
