Just put a 3018 together, it has a Woodpecker CNC GRBL 0.9 board.
I have installed driver and set com port.
I loaded grbl 0.8.4 as this is the software that came with the machine.
I used settings tab and set com port and the software seems to be
connected with the board.

The screen says the following:
[G0 G54 G17 G21 G90 M0 M5 M9 T0 F0.0 S31.5]

However....

Any commands like $ or $$, nothing happens

I can jog x and y axis only in single steps only
if I choose 10 steps the machine will stop moving
at all and I have to close grbl and restart

I cannot jog the z axis at all, when I try it
again the machine and software locks up
and I have to shutdown and restart.


I can turn on and off the spindle until the
software locks up because of the above.

Nothing else seems to work and I cannot get
any results from entering anything into command
line.

Is my board defective or am I missing something.
Perhaps I have completely overlooked a setting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am new to all this. I purchased a 3018 cnc from Banggood and it did not come with software. I am looking for GRBL 0.8 which is suppose to be on Banggood's site. But I can't find it. May I ask where did you get yours from? I don't know if I can help with your problem but if you go to Banggood's site and search for a cnc 3018, scroll down and there are three videos. The first one is an assembly one but the second part of the video shows how to activate the software. May that will help.
