    Error: Security Device is Invalid or has Failed

    I have a 1992-93 Hurco Mcchining Center with Ultimax 3 Control. On starting up the machine is giving the following error: Security Device is Invalud or has failed.

    I have check the ribbon cable on the paralled port and it does have a dongle with a black chip. The ribbon cable connectivity is ok. How can I fix this problem. Can I check the chip or replace it?

    It could be the parallel port gone bad. If so, buy one of those little cards that has LPT/COM/FDD/HDD support on it, turn off the LPT1 in the CPU BIOS, re-configure the little card to be the LPT1. Plug the dongle in and if it works, fine. If it still doesn't work, the little cube that plugs into the dongle will need replacing or re-programming or the dongle itself will need replacing.

    I am not a computer expert and need your help is replacing the parallel port:

    1. How do I get into the CPU BIOS on the hurco and turn off the LPT1.

    2. What is the name of the "little card" and where do I insert this card. How do I re-configure it to be the new LPT1.

    Thanks

    (Info: My Hurco has ISA bus)

    You know, Hurco has a terrific service department. The service manager there is: Doug Hilker. Mr. Hilker's email is: [email protected]. But they do have a number of inside service people. I'm sure they could help you through this problem! It seems like this is the first place to go with a problem with your Hurco. I did not realize that you were in Pakistan when I first read of your problem. I apologize.

    You need a card like this one. http://visualflex.net/gigagon/isa.htm

    The security device is very voltage sensitive. Try connecting an old printer to the port and see if it comes up ( this will alter the voltage). You cannot add a card to the old ISA (multibus system). The 5vdc at the port must be at 5.00vdc, you can adjust this at the power supply. If the port is dead the MPU board must be repaired (not good).

    Buddy, you can add a card to the ISA rack to enable the use of a different LPT1. I personally have done this a few times with 100% success. You set the onboard LPT1 to off, configure the Little card to have HDD off, FDD off and coms off.

    Multibus, just replace the surface mounted 1488 and 1489 ic's nearest to the port sockets on the CPU.

    Correct, I mis-spoke. You cannot add a card to Multibus but you can to the PC based systems.

    Sorry, I had a brain fart and associated ISA with Multibus.

    The 1488 & 1489 chips control the RS232 ports, not the parallel port.

    how to test Hurco security device

    Actually, you can test the security device on a PC (having a floppy and parallel port).

    You will need the Optikey floppy (usually available in the software folder provided with the Hurco ).

    Plug the security device into the PCs parallel port and boot the PC on the Optikey floppy, The floppy is doing some sort of DOS boot and will automatically run an optikey.exe utility and display any valid keys that it finds.

    If the Optikey floppy does not find any valid keys, you will know that the security device most likely has a problem. And if the Optikey utility finds valid keys on the PC, then its more likely a problem with the Hurco motherboard parallel port or cable.

    Re: Error: Security Device is Invalid or has Failed

    Hello!
    Long time no one post within this topic... (hope someone will see this message .

    I'm facing the same problem - during start up, i've got message "security device is invalid or has failed".
    I'm not a HURCO specialist but hoping that problem is with the "dongle" attached below i start digging.
    Attachment 318686
    First of all the voltage are very incorrect in my opinion. Security device is DS1204U (DS1255 is adapter for it - i gues) and according to the datascheet it should be supplied with +5VDC.
    What i measured is 3.5V!!!! Trying to figure it out i also measure voltages which is suplied to the whole computer cage- that is +5VDC +12VDC -12VDC +24VDC. Everything is ok.
    So I back again to the LPT port and check voltage level on it (at the end of the ribbon - not on PC card socket) and that was ok!!! High level was 4,97V. I measured it without dongle.

    i draw schematic of this dongle. than i check it tripple, and in my opinion something is not ok. There is no direct conection with pin 1 (Vcc)of the key ( security device) and LPT port. Any idea what's it all about??

    Ah, Multibus. Your dongle will need to be checked by a division of Hurco but those little keys are unavailable now. If it has failed, you will need to see if you can find one and have it re-programmed.

    Re: Error: Security Device is Invalid or has Failed

    My security device electrically is OK. I've checked it in two ways. First i wrote a VB program - and i got response. Second, I used an AVR platform and also device responded. If so, that means that content of security device is wrong. But how it is possible? Maybe there is someone who has got content of security device? That would be very helpfull.

    Best regards.

    Question, we have a BMC 3017. '93 era. Got the same error message, sent the key back to service. Unfortunately, Fed Ex has lost it. The package we sent the key in was torn open and empty. It sat in Indianapolis for a week before we realized it hadn't arrived at it destination. I don't know if they will be able to find it. What is the protocol in case of a lost key? Will we have to put new boards in with a new key? Waiting on quotes for what it is going to take to get this machine up and running again......

    It will depend on what version of software you have and what CPU. If you can't get another dongle, you may need your CPU upgrading to a Peak715 or Peak777 as these will run dongle-less on V2.37.03e software.

    Hello people,
    I know this is a very old thread but I recently having the same problem since last week.
    https://ibb.co/cFXSrtS

    So far I tried many things including the ones mentioned above...
    This is the screen when I run the millboy.exe:
    https://ibb.co/3ctkt4b

    This is the screen when I run the showkey.exe:
    https://ibb.co/2vQbrR4

    When I unplug the dongle this is what millboy.exe and showkey.exe shows;
    https://ibb.co/0nZPgwh

    So I guess my security dongle is working but I don't know if it has any data in it or not.

    I get this screen in optivew.exe utility /Installation Flags ;
    https://ibb.co/2SNmyHJ

    Optiview utility /Final key Configuration;
    https://ibb.co/Yh3G4w0

    Optiview utility /Original Disk Configuration;

    My machine is 1994 Hurco BMC30.

    Any suggestions are welcome, best regards.
