I have a LMS 3595 HiTorque 8.5x20 lathe and now have the need to be able to support a long object (business end of pool cue) from the headstock. I have a delrin collet for the 3-jaw chuck to hold the tip, but the problem is preventing whipping of the back end. Does anyone know if there is a commercial item that will work? If not one idea I thought of is a 20mm delrin insert, but I was concerned about it backing out due to vibration. Does anyone know what the thread specs are for the outside threads on spindle (and nuts)? It's not in the manual (Part 143 in diagram). I'm thinking if I remove one lock nut, I could make something that would screw onto the shaft and could be used to stabilize the part. Thoughts?
