Hi,

I'm not sure how to phrase this question exactly but I'll just give it a try...

I've seen some steppers listed with a single inductance figure and then some listed with an inductance per phase. I know that I should be looking for a low inductance figure, so I'm not sure if sellers list the inductance per phase to make the figure look lower or if it doesn't make a difference. When a seller lists a motor with a specific inductance should I always be assuming it is per phase?

Steppers alternate from phase to phase, so the inductance is the same at any given point in the course of running the motor. I've never seen any motors that listed different induction numbers for different phases, but I suppose it's possible. Not likely, though.

Hi,
From my experience, the value quoted is always per phase. As Andrew stated the phases for a bipolar motor are separate so it is not sensible to quote it any other way.
