Re-installing crusty old Deublin rotary union?

    Hello again everyone,
My machine "has" TSC and came with a crusty un-installed Deublin rotary union. It spins freely but I am skeptical of the condition of the seals due to the fact that it is no longer installed. I would like to re-install it to use the spindle air blast, at least. What is the worst-case scenario if the seals are bad and I try to run through-spindle coolant? Is the spindle cartridge water-tight from the top? Or will I bathe my spindle bearings in coolant?

I found the edge protector and plate I need on the MAG site, but I sure won't be shelling out $750-$1,500 for another Deublin any time soon.

what is the size of the rotary union on your machine. Also have you thought
about rebuilding the rotary union .
Deublin does not make the ceramic seals or bearings,

    Johnd,
I believe the one that i have is this one https://www.deublin.com/Products/1109-053-188 , but I will have to verify. I have thought about rebuilding! I called Deublin to get a quote on a rebuild and they said my model was not serviceable. I have rebuilt turbos before and it seems like it should be the same sort of process.

If you would not use coolant through the spindle, I would not install the union. If the union leaks the coolant goes down in the tool un-clamp section and causes problems. The coolant would also get on the spindle belt. Why take the risk.

    Mike,
Makes sense! I don't want that one bit! I might hijack the TSC coolant valve solenoid and use the M27 to run through spindle air instead. I can cap the TSC feed just for extra safety.
