    4th axis Rotary head

Good day all. I am using SW2018 with cam and running into tool path issues. hope someone can help. I am simply trying to face a round rod using an end mill by slowly indexing the Z axis down as the rotary head spins. how can i achieve this? thanks

I suppose that could work if the rod was really well-supported in its chuck or collet, with very little stick-out. It would probably work better, though, if instead of moving in Z it moved in Y, across the face of the rod. That way you'd be cutting with the flat side of the endmill and not just the edge.

my rotation axis is on the y, so i assume you are saying to run the EM on the X on the face of the part?

Post a screen grab of the setup as it appears in SolidCAM and we can comment further. If you want more direct help on this you can always call your local SolidCAM Reseller and get into GOTOMeeitng with them. As for programming strategy you can review this training video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-p-...dCAMUniversity.
