    Surfacing 7075 plate, recommendations?

    Hello there!

Wondering if someone could give me some guidance. I'm designing two parts for a CNC router which I'm planning to get machined, I haven't chosen a manufacturer yet.

    They measure

    400mm x 217.5mm x 25-30mm
    250mm x 265 x 25-30mm

In anyone's opinion, would a surfacing cut of 0.5mm cause any distortion in those plate sizes? How light a cut could I get done while still giving a consistent finish on stock 7075 plate?

    Cheers

It would depend on the material you use, 7075 can be processed in different ways cast is best for plates which gives you less distortion for machining a plate like this, it should be Blanchard Ground, or double disc Ground, you could just buy it already Ground also

If you want it better than .005" then you would mount it to your machine base if it is not the moving part, and then have it surfaced

That is what most use, also known as cast tooling plate, there are companies that will grind the plate also
