OKUMA MU400VA OSP-P200 MH Large and heavy tools

    Hello,

    Machine is intermittently dropping the same tool. I believe the tool would fall under the Large and heavy category. Does anyone know how to designate a tool as heavy on an Okuma P200 controller? the machine is listed below;

    Okuma
    MU400VA
    Controller OSP-P200 MH

    Your input is much appreciated

    hy
... heavy atribute reduces arm swing speed
... large atribute checks for atc neighbour pots to be empty
    * thus, neither is related to spindle clamping

does the weight of your toolholder+tool<maximum allowed for your machine ( values should be listed inside the operation&maintenance manual, and also inside machine catalogue ) ? if yes, then maybe :
... your spindle clamping power has reduced; broken elements maybe ?
... your toolholder does not make proper contact with the spindle taper
... pulstud needs to be replaced
... there is a lack of balance, even if rpm is low

if i understood right, that the tool does drop/fly-off, i would recomand checking spindle's retention force, taper contact and claws condition ( those that grip the pullstud ) / kindly

If you are dropping tools from the tool change arm.
Then forget 99% of kitty's comment. It has nothing to do that involves the spindle, pullstud or taper.
The only item that may assist is defining a Heavy tool.... but I'm not sure if it is a purchased option or not... yes it should slow the rotating speed of the tool arm.

Check the tool change arm out fully, all things that grip the vee.
    ... if casting is split
... spring / grip pin assembly

Try SET 5,L when setting a large tool #5. That should slow it down. If adjacent tools need to be dummy, then use ,D. If clearing use * to remove setting. I think ,H may also work for heavy tool.
Experience is what you get just after you needed it.
