There is a way to use old computers both laptops and towers.
We all have heard of linux well there is the answer. Do not throw out old system you can set up with http://www.ubuntu.com/Ubuntu 7.04.
We have used this in a coup[le of site and saved some money for clients.

Really nice program to load and use even if you have no clue how to handle linux..

Now if your going to do that.. you really should look at emc2.

It uses the 6.06 because it's a "long term support" (LTS) release.
You can download the live cd with emc2 installed here.

It will allow you to boot into ubuntu and try emc2. Then you can install the os with emc if you like what you see.
