Increase power - 3 phase to single phase

Hi, I have a single phase DC welding inverter, 230V 20A. As is it trips circuit breaker (16A). I have 3 phase AC power 3x16A 3x230v. Can i power the inverter with 3 rectifiers , one from each phase with outputs in paralel ? Is it safe ? Florin

No, your best bet is to wire in an appropriate AC source from the panel, with suitable breaker.
Do you have any outlets that are higher than 20a to serve double duty? Dryer etc?

    Hi,
you can generate your DC link voltage by rectifying three phase power....but....there are some distinct design challenges.

In particular how are you going to limit inrush-current? Its a very VERY common fault with any inverter welder for the inrush
protection circuits/components fail. Thus you will have to consider this when you design your rectifiers. If you are unfamiliar with inrush
protection it might be wise to avoid it alltogether.

Single phase inverter welders, particularly cheap entry level units are EXTREMEMLY hard on input power. All the better single phase inverter
welders have a 'Active PFC' at the input, and they are SO MUCH better, but regrettably much higher priced as well. If you search for
a new welder then ask for Active PFC and if the salesman does not know what it is then walk....or better run away!
