    Closed loop stepper positioning

I'm completely new to cnc, and of course, I have a problem:

    https://www.cnczone.com/forums/attac...d=454444&stc=1
I will make a linear guide ( 1605 ball screw, hiwin rails, chinese close loop stepper Nema 23) that will close the two piece die set, and it's contact surfaces needs to be without any gap.
The question is how to achieve the perfect positioning every time? ( gap between the contacting surfaces needs to be ''zero'').

Jog the die closed, set 0 there, then just move to 0 each time.

Normally this type of thing is done with an adjustable mechanical stop for maximum accuracy.

    Thank you!!!
So, adjustable mechanical stop on the dies side (right?), and maybe a limit switch on the other side of the rail?

The only concern is repeatability on the dies side, but I guess it depends not just of my closed loop stepper, but my linear rail, too?

    Thanks again,
    Marco.

Normally for an application like this you would use an air cylinder, hydraulic cylinder, or a crank shaft.

The cylinders can be adjusted with an adjustable hard stop at the die side.

The crank shaft with an adjustable length connecting rod, can be adjusted to the exact shut height required.

The design in the picture would be self limiting, because 0 is a hard stop.

    I understand.
I'll consider a cam shaft for this project.
    Thanks a million,

Yes, a cam would work also. I built one small press that had a cam, worked very well.
