    collet sticking.

I bought a new spindle because the old one has bearing problems. New one works great except for the fact that the collet gets stuck in the spindle after every use. It doesn't matter if I use the collet from the old spindle or the one that came with the new spindle. I keep having to pry it off, which in the long term is probably not good for the spindle. Any ideas or advise?

what type of collet is it? I would try some Never Seize on the tapered surface. Just a very thin coating.

hy if possible, measure your actual taper, and/or check the contact area, using a thin marker

... clamp an electric motor, or an air driven hand tool + a grinding stone, center it, then refresh the spindle cone
    ...... or
... remove shaft from spindle, and take it to a grinding machine

since your spindle is new, correction should be minimal, otherwise, you should also re-cut the frontal / happy new year

what kind of collet cap is being used
the tool holders i use you have to put the er collet in with a tilt to get by the front of the collet and get the ring on the inside into the collet groove this should be what pulls the collet out of the taper

That is strange. In the ER system, the nut pulls the collet out even if the collet is somehow stuck in the taper. Are you sure you are snapping the collet into the nut properly and not just screwing the nut over the collet?

Yes, sounds like you are not using the collet correctly. Remove the nut and collet, and snap the collet into the nut before screwing the nut on.
