    Simple DXF editor

Hey all, I was using Emachine software for creating simple 2d tool drawings and cleaning up imported DXF files, it was really good at that. Now they want a $200 yearly subscription for it!!! I'd pay $100 outright for it, it saves time, but they're getting greedy!!!

I've downloaded a few trial and freebies, but they're junk so far, anybody know of anything decent???

BTW I'm a Solidworks user, and that's the hard way to work with DXF's, looking for something simple I can put on a simple PC not on my Solidworks graphics PC...

Just Google "Free 2D CAD" and find one you like.

I would recommend QCad. Been using it the past few years and am very happy with it. Basic version is free to use and pro version is a one time charge of $60. I spent allot of time searching around for a DXF editor and trying different freebies and trials. In the end this is what I settled on.

    Re: Simple DXF editor

Mike, that was the first one I downloaded today, could do much with it. Basically what I'm doing is importing with Illustrator, cleaning up, exporting as DXF, then opening with Solidworks, then making adjustments and saving, real PIA!

Used to be able to do it in one step with Emachine.. $200 for a yearly subscription is ridiculous...

DesignCAD used to be decent, and was pretty cheap. It's the first CAD program I used about 30 years ago.

Gerry thanks, looks like the same people that do Turbo Cad. They have a 2D version, but no trial for it, I just got a 15 day eval of the the Turbo Cad version, I'll see how that works...

It's been years since I used it, but I always found DesignCAD to be much easier to use than TurboCAD. But I'm sure they are both much different today than when I used them.
They used to be developed by separate companies, but got bought out at some point.

    Re: Simple DXF editor

Tried the Turbo Cad quickly last night, seems to use a lot of resource to run, It's not that it's hard to use, I can do pretty much do anything in Solidworks, I just need something I can edit with quickly, emachine was perfect for that..

    Re: Simple DXF editor

Gerry, i asked about an eval for a 2D system, they told me about a free version of DoubleCAD software from DoubleCAD.com

That seems to be closer to what I'm looking for, just a quick and dirty was to edit DXF files, I like it so far...
