DIY Rotary axis on Chinese laser

Hi all guys, I just bought a 50W Chinese laser cutter, I wanted to mount a rotating axis, already having a couple of unused stepper motors, and a 3D printer I thought I'd build it myself.

The laser cutter features DM545A drivers and 57-H250C408S / HS motors

The engine in my possession is a 17HD48002H-22B

Are they compatible with each other? Do I need to change any driver / software settings?

    Thanks everyone for the answers

You should be ok hooking the driver to either motor and drive the mechanism with one motor. More important question is what do you attach the driver to? Swap it for the Y axis or does your controller have an A axis input?

My laser cutter supports the rotary axis by changing the motor to the Y axis and activating the rotary axis mode.

I tried to connect the motor by switching the Y motor with my DIY rotary axis, but the motor just vibrates without turning.
The connections of the various wires are ok

From what I understand the drivers are set at 2000 pulse/rev at 2.36A RMS

According to the spec sheet on the 17hd it has 4 wires. Two goes to A A’ and the other two to B and B’ of the driver. So Black, green are a pair and red, blue are a pair.
If you reverse them in a pair the motor reversed but you can’t mix wires between pairs. Like make a pair of black and red
So if you can’t trace wires to the driver then I’d try swapping black and red at the connector

I tried swapping black and red, the motor vibrates less but does not turn.

    The wires connection are:

    Driver DM545A - Motor

    A + Brown - Black
    A - Blu - Green
    B + Yellow - Red
    B - Black - Blue

For a rotary axis I don’t see any issues with that. My XY axis drive is max pulses per rev (all off) but 2000 should work. My power is off, on, off - slightly higher.
    Wiring looks good.
Nothing mechanically locking the rotary mechanism?
The four motor wires are connected? No breaks anywhere?
Reconnect your axis motor and it works again?
Btw never disconnect a motor with power on

    Steppers don’t normally go bad.

I can turn the motor with my hands, so nothing block it, the axis motor works as soon i swap it.

i will connect the Rotary motor directly to the driver ports so we can remove the doubt of the wires connection.

I managed to get the motor run but it lasted 2 minutes, then it stopped and got very hot, could it be a power problem?
The 17HD48002H-22B motors are rated Current / phase: 1.7 A
The driver is set to 2.47 A
    Could this be the problem?

Not sure if that’s normal or not. My nema 17s get hot also. I put cooling fins on mine and sometimes add a fan.
You can also try lowering the current as long as it doesn’t loose steps and stall. In the end I’m afraid it will still get hot.
    Sounds like it works. Good.

I would take a close look at the frequency of the signals being sent to the motor. It should NOT be hot. barely warm is okay, but if it's hot, something is not right.

Re: DIY Rotary axis on Chinese laser

This hot stepper topic might be a different thread but when using nema 17 I either use Chinese drives on a laser or drives in circuit boards like you use for 3D printers.
The laser X axis drive gets hot. Printer not so much. Not a lot of options as you need to run high step rates due to the belt drive. Amp setting don’t seem to cool it. Not a lot to adjust here. I’d welcome any suggestions that don’t involve an expensive step/drive replacement
Btw I have a medium sized nema 23 on a G540 that also gets hot, but not as hot as the 17. In the end I’m not sure it’s a problem

How i can check the frequency? And my motor is dead...i have another one, but i don't want to broke that too
