:stickpoke I purchased 3 of the motors listed above and a 3 axis controller from HobbyCNC. Some how I cannot find the single sheet of paper that comes with the motors which describes how to connect the motor to the controller.

I registered on Friday August 3 for the Yahoo forum. But because Hobbycnc is closed, I have not been "approved" to view the forum yet.

I simply need the correct pin connections for the 8 wire "23-305-DS8A."

Please help if you can

I have them with the 4 axis HCNCPRO. For the colour code for the 205 and 305 are :
A - red white - b
COM-yellow orange- COM
COM- blue brown- COM
a - black green - B
Watch your capital A & B's.

Not quite right. White is b and green is B. Those 2 from your post are backwards.

but when i checked the papers with the packge it was like as i said, may be may motors doesn't work or even lockup because of that.
and is there in damage will be if i connect the motors in wrong way or as you say in your last reply

I didn't see a sheet listing the wiring diagram when I opened my box. Maybe I misplaced mine too.

From the pdf:

It shows White to be B
and Green is B with a hash mark over it.

So which is which?

To get a clockwise motion of the stepper, the sequence should be:

RED WHITE BLACK GREEN

With ORG/BRN and BLU/YEL as common.

I have the 23-305-DS8 motors for converting my mill drill. They where purchased from Dave Rigotti of Hobbycnc last spring. The wiring page with them shows all 3 motors 23-130-DS8, 23-205-DS8, and 23-305-DS8 using the same colour code. Left side Capital A is Red
Com is Yellow
Com is Blue
Small a is Black

Right side Small b is White
Com is Orange
Com is Brown
Capital B is Green

I suggest if you don't believe me then go to the Yahoo forum and ask Dave. This is the wiring code I am using with my Hobbycnc 4 axis pro board. At the moment it is running my foamcutter and for $100 I am going to buy another board for my mill conversion. Then I don't have to change the vref when switching motors.
I am happy the way it is on my cutter.

IT seems there is conflicting information in the PDFs.

It lists WHITE as captital B in the second file named 23-305-DS8. In the other list that you are referring to (the file called HobbyCNC MS 8 wire diagram.pdf) the white wire is listed as lower case b.

So, as you see, we are both right, depending on which file you look at, but actually one is not correct. Which one?

I'd say if it is running on your mill, the YOU are correct.

I'll ask dave.

BOTH! Doesn't matter electronically. IF the stepper spins in the wrong
direction AND your software does not have a reversing feature simply swap
either A for a or B for b BUT not both. This is explained in the driver
board assembly instructions.

Sorry I don't mean to hijack this thread but this is the only mention of these motors i could find. How powerful are they? I'm looking to build a CNC machine using HDPE plastic for the frame, some steel rods from some old printers and for the motors and driver board i thought the HobbyCNC deal looked good. Would these motors have enough torque to push a proper drill or would i be limited to something like a dremel?

305oz/in calculate to just over 19lbs or 8.66kg at a 1:1 ratio. If you are using any sort of threaded rod/gearing on the X/Y axis, the threads/gears act as a lever and therefore produce even more force.

There is a formula somewhere, but for example, if you use a 20 thread per inch screw, then you multiply that by motor torque, so in effect you get 380lbs and if the thread is only 30% efficient, that still gives you 114lbs or 51kg of force.

In my opinion:
motor torque/16 x thread pitch x thread efficiency = max movable mass

Not sure if that is right or not, but it is logical to assume because of friction and percentage of loss dependent on the type of thread/nut used.

I am building mine to move an 11lb router plus about 25 lbs of gantry.

You should be fine. Anyone else confirm this since I am still new?

Look at the Joes machines in the threads in the Joes sub forum. These motors and 200 ounce hobbyCNC motors are the ones most used to build the Joes. That should give you a point of comparison for your build.

Thanks for the info but it looks like hobbycnc have stopped doing the deal that i had in mind. Though i have salvaged a couple of Nippon Bi-polar motors but i think they are only 60-70 ounce-in.

I have a sheet dated 2/2/2008 from HobbyCNC with the following data:
A=Red
a=Black
COM=Yellow/Blue
Com=Orange/Brown
b=Green
B=White

I have a 4 Axis TB6560 CNC Stepper Motor Driver Board Controller.And the motor hook up.
A+
A-
B+
B-
I tryied
A+ as A red
A- as a black
B+ as B white
B- as b green

The motor are on but all that happens the relay clicks

I am not sure what your board is like for operating but if it is only using 4 wires then what have you done with the other 4. The com wires yellow and blue should be connected together and so shoul the orange and brown. Otherwise you have an open circuit. Look at the diagram from Dave's post which should explain it.

Bipolar drivers only need 4 wires. The coils can be connected in parallel with 8 wire motors to get more torque or to allow the motors to run cooler.

You are correct but from the explanation I read is that he is only using 4 wires. He does not mention anything about the other 4. If they are not connected they are not going to work. The motor he is using has 8 wires and I have 4 of them.

It will work with the proper 4 wires hooked up, as long as the others are not shorted together. However, it would not be the best utilization of the motor.
