Post Upgrading OmioCNC spindle to ATC - VFD options?

I'm planning to upgrade OmioCNC to have ATC spindle since I'm about to start mass production. I settled on JGL-100 3.2kw 24000rpm ISO25 (220V, 8.8A, 4p, 800Hz) spindle, now I'm looking for VFD. So far i found two options:

    1. SUNFAR VFD Inverter E550-2S0055L 5.5Kw AC220V Frequency Inverter (1000Hz)
    2. Single-Phase FC300-5.5G-T2 220V 0-1000hz 5.5kw 7.5HP 25A VFD Inverter Special

Any experience with those? Any unforseen issues? Are there any better alternatives?

    Thank you

Re: Upgrading OmioCNC spindle to ATC - VFD options?

I guess the spindle/VFD configuration I mentioned must be an unusual one. Long story short, I'm getting more and more confused around VFD's more I read posts on this forum. I'm going back and forth with Wafer regarding spindle specs including VFD requirements and so far I'm getting nowhere. I'm looking for a peer confirmation on few details before I leave 2 grand out of my hands. I decided to modify my setup and go with 2-pole, 220V JGL-100 3.2kw 24000rpm ISO25. Simply, more VFD options. Originally I wanted 2.5KW one but apparently they don't make those anymore. I want ISO25 because it allows to use ER20 collets. I've red a lot of posts around VFD's and ATC spindles, especially jian-ken ones, the more I read about them, more I'm confused.

My CNC setup will run on 240V split-phase system. It will have 50amp circuit breaker supplying power to a new CNC electrical encosure. Software: UCCNC.

    1. Anyone knows how much rated current is for 2-pole, 220V JGL-100 3.2kw 24000rpm ISO25 spindle? Jian-ken website rates it at 8.8A, mactec54 stated in one of his posts 2.2KW runs at 9.6A.
    2. Another post mentioned you need at least 2HP bigger VFD then what your spindle output is when derating. So if my spindle is rated 4.3HP. that means 6.3HP and the closes to 6.3 is 7.5HP VFD. Is this correct? Do I have to go 10HP?

Your spindle 3.2Kw won't be 2 pole if it is 800Hz it will be 4 pole, if you can find a 4Kw or 4.5Kw VFD Drive you will be ok the SunFar is one of your best choices ideal you want it to be larger but you don't want to go to high

Yes I don't know how they rate there Motor amps 3.2Kw is not 8.8A that 8.8A would be for 380v supply not 220v would be around 12.5A to 13A depending on the power factor used

So the VFD Drive needs an input Amp rating of 22A minimum so anything above this will be good don't worry about the output only the Input Amp rating is important for single phase use

The reason you need a larger Hp VFD Drive is because you are using single phase the input Amp requirement goes up almost double X 1.73 to be exact plus you want to have a safety factor
