    In need of advice for a used laser source

    Good day everyone
    I run a small shop making decorations and have always wanted a metal cutting laser as plasma is just not precise enough
    Had some experience with CO² lasers and DIYing various CNC machines
    There's a listing on ebay for a used 500w source so I thought I might turn it into a fun summer project

    Before I waste some money there are questions:
    - is 980nm ok for cutting steel? (most commercial units are 1064nm)
    - is there anything special software-wise or may I treat it as an expensive plasma machine?
    - aside from the source, the optical cable and the head, what other expensive/hard to purchase parts are there?
