    An easy one, g54

I’m learning on my Fanuc 21 mill. Trying to do a simple go to the work piece with g54 then from that position move on the x axis 4.0 inches. When I input it in Mdi and tried it several ways it keep traveling at an angle right from the start, doesn’t rapid to g54 then travel the 4 inches along the Z

Could it be parameter 1401.1 is set wrong?

    Thanks
    Craig

    Maybe this would work

    G54
    G0 Xn.nnn Yn.nnn
    G1 Zn.nnn Fn.n

Still moves at an angle from the home position

Normally making a G0 move, each axis moves independently and simultaneously, taking the shortest path to the assigned position which may be at an angle depending on the starting and ending position.

If you want the X and Y to rapid along a specific path, then you would really need to make a G1 move at a high feed rate.

It does work, goes to g54 then the x axis but it’s all rapid thru the z too

You can NOT have a rapid (G00) and a feed (G01) in the same block. Fanuc only looks at one or the other as you can not do both.

In your screenshot above, I would expect the table to rapid to position at X-4.0 and Y0.0, then the Z would move down to 0 at 50 IPM.

Right now I want to leave Z out of any movement until I get it figured out.

I’m just trying to mill a key way in a bar

I think what you want is this

    G54
    G0 X0.0 Y0.0
    G1 Z0.0 F5.0
    G1 X-4.0
