Sram card internal battery backup failure

    Dear all,
Recently I got a used Sram Card(Mitsubishi Melcard 1MB). I have to use this memory card for programs backup from Mori Seiki SL-250(Fanuc 18i-T).
For first when I get the card I changed backup battery(3V BR2325) with a new one because the old was completely discarghe. With the new battery I install the memory into a Sram/Pcmcia card reader for PC. When I turn on the laptop Windows message says : Memory card need to be formatted, format?
I chose not format the card because I am not sure if it is the correct way to perform that operation.
    My question is the follow:
It is necessary to format Sram Card after internal battery backup failure for a long time?

Yes, but you should format it on the CNC not the PC.

SRAM cards have an external and internal rechargeable battery. If the external battery has been left dead for a long time, the internal rechargeable battery is now dead. Therefore, even if you replace the external battery, it will not work properly because the internal battery is damaged.
