    You could have a roller pass over the top surface, or just a flat board to press them down. Maybe seal the bottom and use a blower as a vacuum pump if you wanted to over-complicate things.

    That's a good description.

    I think the key is that you don't need control over every block in a random fashion, the game is likely to demand walls and rooms which means lots of straight lines.
