    deep engraving of acrylic question

so i sometimes use the laser for deep 3d engraving of acrylic to make dies and stamps and stuff like that.

I have a couple chinese glass co2 lasers as well as an epilog ( metal tube)

i find the epilog engraves with a little better quality but what im finding is that the deeper i engrave into the acrylic the worse the surface finish gets.

I would love to get better quality with my glass tube machines and was looking for advise.

I dont need perfect quality but say for leather embossing die, im finding that the negative space when i go deep starts getting very rough and effects the finish on the leather.

Anyone doing deep engravings ( 1/16th to 1/8 deep in acrylic and getting a decent smooth surface? whats your trick?

Re: deep engraving of acrylic question

    hi manakawari,

the epilog will beat the co2 hands down for fine engraving, i would look into buyimg a finer focal point lens (cloudray site)
i have purchased stock from these guys.
