    Help Required!

Hi total newbie looking for advice, we have a cnc cam tech laser etching machine which was new on 27 sept 2001. One of the motor drives is beyond repair. We are looking to put in new drivers and motors. Can anyone help with advice as where to start. Even better if someone could do the job for us, or is local to Cheshire in the UK who would be willing to have a look at the machine and advise accordingly.?
I have attached some photos and apologize if this post is in the wrong section.

And your motors are (size, winding current)?
If you are willing to do it yourself, buy Leadshine DM542 drivers ( https://kitaez-cnc.com/f/dm542.pdf ) and, if needed, new steppers
    Manual for your drivers: https://www.kollmorgen.com/sites/def...ive_Manual.pdf

    Re: Help Required!

Hi thanks for the quick response.. will the motors have a stamp with the information on them or will I need to be looking else where?
The MD 808 steppers are now obsolete, hence the reason for the upgrade.. the machine is 20 years old...
The software has been upgraded and laser tube has been serviced, we would now like to upgrade the CNC bed.

The reason why I mentioned Leadshine drivers is Slo-Syn obsolesce.
Just obtain Leadshine drivers and configure them as were your Slo-Syn drivers, i.e. Current and Microstepping.
I guess that your motors are in good condition.

Just in looking at your images this drive has a signal called opto (haven’t seen that before) that appears to be positive to the control signals. Electronics knowledge might be needed with some other drive.
You also need to consider the step resolution and amp settings. If the resolution changes then you need to make software adjustments that might or might not be easy to do. Resolution changes the machine scale.
Is it possible to find a used drive on eBay?

    Cool Re: Help Required!

    Hi Dean,
(take a look at the manuals that I've linked in my post)
the easiest way is to print a couple of pages from the manuals and place it side by side
Current settings - SloSyn: Page 4-4; Leadshine: Page 8
Microstepping - SloSyn: Page 4-5; Leadshine: Page 7.

As per the electrical connections equivalents are:
    OPTO - PUL+ and DIR+
    PULSE - PUL-
    DIR - DIR-

Only difference is that one jumper wire is needed to interconnect PUL+ and DIR+ on Leadshine driver(s).
If microstepping can be set as on the SloSyn driver, no software adjustments are needed.

As can be seen from Gadge's pictures AWO and RDCE are not connected.

As we are upgrading our stepper drivers to the Leadshine DM542's we think we should also replace the motors.( Slo Syn KML091S - 103) .I have attached a photo of the ones we have ,looking for recommendations as to replacement motors, again any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, for that motor suitable driver would be Leadshine DM556. http://www.leadshine.com/uploadfile/down/dm556m.pdf

Hi.. we would like to replace the drivers (MD808) and the Motors KML091S - 103 with a newer equivalent if possible so looking for a suitable replacement for both.?
DM556 with compatible motors or DM542 with compatible motors?
