Talking My New Grex CNC controller

This is the third Grex controller I made for a CNC Plastic Thermal insertion machines for work. The Machine is basically a CNC router with a Beefed up Z axis with a thermal probe mounted instead of a router head. The machine uses heat to insert brass inserts into plastic bosses on parts. The first two I have built have been running 24 X 7 for the last 8 months and work great. We also use it for heat staking and trimming gates with a small router head.

This new controller has a PC built in with hard drive and even a 5 port switch, I have interfaced a DVT inspection camera to the Grex for doing inprocess insert pressence detection. It work great so far.

All the panel cut outs and engraving has been done on my full servo CNC converted X3 Mill.

I have included a link to some pictures, they are pretty big, so be patient!

    very nice!

That is a slick setup. PC and controllers all in one box.
A great space saver, for sure.

    Whoa!

That's one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. You even have the PC built into it! Fantastic. G-Rex, Vampires, the whole works. Wow.

    That's cool!

It would not have occured to me to stuff everything in one chassis for fear of noise issues, but I assume this has not been a problem for you?

Would love to see some pics of your parts placing machines too?

    Best,

    BW

    Excellent Design

    Hey Bird Man

The end product looks very professional - Congrats

BTW I probably live only a few miles from you. Have 7 woodworking machines running GREX controllers. Let me know if you would like to get together and kick around ideas in the future.

    Bird Man,

I had a look at your page, and the controllers you've built look equally well thought out and executed. The wheel truing stand caught my eye too; one I get my mill set up, I'll get my bike finished so I can beat the fork to death so I can make one of my own!

No time to do it right, plenty of time to do it twice.
