assume you looked on their website but if not I believe Tormach has the version documentation change summaries online in the path pilot section.

No that's the thing. pathpilot update website has 2.8.1 update but the release notes are still 2.8.0 so I can't tell what changes occurred between 2.8.0 and 2.8.1

Sound like its referring to the underlying version of linuxcnc. Mostly bug fixes
LinuxCNC 2.8.1 released
Linuxcnc is now on V2.8.2Rod Webster
